Unique-Kids was founded in 2007 by Dr. Joanne Williams, a former Zoologist and Pharmaceutical Executive. The dream was to establish a children's wear brand that manufactures clothing locally with designs that embrace the Welsh way of life. She identified the beautiful tourist destination of Beaumaris as a base for the brand, with the area craving a retail outlet offering design-driven kidswear.
The idea of Unique-Kids like most was thought up half way down a bottle of bubbly! Fireside conversation turned to Jo's frustration at the lack of Welsh children's clothing there was available to her and her daughter, but unlike many of these ideas by morning the wheels were in motion.
Jo used her professional background as well as her experience as a mum to create a range of designs that would benefit other children, be it in the playground or in deep forest whilst walking the dog. A link was then forged with Broadwaith clothing manufacturers in Anglesey who continue to create the clothing that you and your children wear today.
As the clothing went into manufacture a retail outlet was acquired on the Beaumaris high street (Castle Street). The shop incorporates the feel of a child's bedroom with fun items everywhere and a pirate ship as a counter! The success of the shop has lead to the creation of this very website, with agents also selling our clothing across Britain. Jo carefully chooses the companies representation to ensure that they embody the brands ethos and love of the clothes, whilst allowing the brand to grow organically.
Unique-Kids has had a gradual progression and we never forget our roots. Without our original 2 members of staff Julie and Linda we would never have achieved half of the success that we have, the clothes may change in style or design but the reason they are made will not. Wales is a great place to bring up children and make clothing, let's embrace the two.
